Chem Eng 2G03: Problem Solving and Technical Communication PS

-Developing awareness, problem solving strategies, creativity, analysis and interpersonal skills in the context of solving homework problems.
-Interpretation, retrieval manipulation and communication of information.
-Researching, preparing, and editing technical writing and oral presentations.
-Creating resumes, cover letters and practicing job interview skills.
Chem Eng 3Q03: Polymer Science 3Q03

‐Introducing polymer science for advanced polymer courses (polymer processing, reaction engineering…)
‐Developing a tool box of knowledge for the workplace.
‐Reinforcing industrially important organic and physical chemistry within the context of polymer science.
‐Acquiring an intuition for how polymer structure relates to material properties.
Chem Eng Special Topics:
Thin Films and Surface Characterization Techniques (Jan 2015)

-Discussing current trends and preparation of soft matter thin films and coatings including: spin-coating, Langmuir-Blodgett deposition, casting, molecular combing, layer-by-layer assembly, etc.
-Critically analyzing published literature on surface science and nano-characterization of surfaces.
-Understanding theory and operation of various characterization techniques (hands-on experience and data processing):
  • Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Colloid Probe AFM (imaging, forces, adhesion and friction)
  • Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D)
  • Multiwavelegth surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy (SPR)
  • Ellipsometry
